The moral of A Different Man is simple: be careful what you wish for. Sebastian Stan stars in this awkwardly funny fable from writer/director Aaron Schimberg as Edward, a painfully shy man whose face is covered in tumors, a condition that repulses most people save for a new neighbor, a lovely young playwright played by Renate Reinsve.
Then Edward learns that a new experimental treatment could heal his face. He is told there are risks but to consider the rewards.
Eventually, his old face sloughs in a scene that would make any body horror fan happy. His new face? A handsome man. Edward is dead. A new life begins. Enter Adam Pearson as Oswald, a man with a similar genetic disorder to Edwards. Only Oswald is charming, sexy, and confident. Edward loses his grip. Stan and Pearson are hypnotic. Beauty is skin deep, but ugly is on the inside.
