Immaculate is a gloriously gruesome work of pop blasphemy set in a sleepy convent dedicated to dying nuns tucked away in the Italian countryside. The movie opens with a brief chase and live burial only to mellow into the story of a young American who takes her vows and becomes a bride of Christ. These slow scenes are livened up by superb character actors portraying various sisters of creepy.
Then the movie transubstantiates into something weird and disgusting. Our hero, played by Sydney Sweeney, is a virgin who suddenly becomes pregnant. This thrills Father Evil, but Sweeney's innocent lamb asks, "WTF?"
The Catholic Church is usually the good guy in movies about demonic possession. In Immaculate, however, the church is a demented laboratory run by holy lunatics. This is silly, gory stuff. Sweeney saves. She blesses every bloody scene she's in. Her final screams of pain and defiance deserve awards.

That was my experience in Catholic school.
