Love Lies Bleeding is a New Mexico gothic romance about two losers falling in love. This is Rose Glass' second movie, and watching it is like waking up in soaked sheets after a fever breaks.
Kristen Stewart plays Lou, the daughter of a local crime boss who works a dead-end job. She's a chainsmoking bundle of nerves, a nobody by choice drifting through life until she's thunderstruck by a hitchhiking bodybuilder working out at the gym she manages. Her name is Jackie, and she's a she-hulk with big dreams. Katy M. O'Brian is swole and fragile as Jackie. Their chemistry is hot. The human heart is a sauna. As Lou's dad, Ed Harris is a homicidal gun nut with an elderly hippie's haircut. Jackie gets hooked on steroids, violence, and sex. Meanwhile, Lou plots a coup.
