150 Word Review: 'Lurker' (2025)
My love song for you
Théodore Pellerin is a haunted Cinderfella with dead eyes in writer-director Alex Russell’s intense psychological thriller about one man’s boundary issues, Lurker. One day, Pellerin’s character is a dorky nobody who lives with his grandmother and works a dead-end retail job; the next, he’s charming a famous pop star who wanders into his store with his impeccable taste in music. Archie Madekwe plays Oliver, a sexy, rising singer who collects and controls fans he abracadabras into his temporary family. He’s basically Matthew’s fairy godfather.
The chance encounter changes Matthew’s life, expanding and deepening it. He’s with the band now, but celebrity is intoxicating—and not everyone can handle the buzz. As Matthew grows clingy and jealous, he threatens the new life that just fell into his lap. Lurker is about boys, power, and fatal attractions. There’s sexual tension and bog-standard social awkwardness.
Russell never flinches, but I looked away at times.
