150 Word Review: 'Reagan' (2024)

Reagan is a sentimental, low-budget celebration of the divisive and influential 40th POTUS starring Dennis Quaid, who gives a shallow but cheerful performance worthy of Disney's Hall of Presidents. The cast is a who's who of who's that? Penelope Ann Miller does her best as a saintly Nancy.

But modern conservatism doesn't embrace Reagan's virtues like it used to. Sad! He was an eloquent, optimistic patriot who despised liberals and Soviets but found common ground with them. Like Reagan, the current GOP presidential candidate is a product of Hollywood, but Trump is darker, angrier, pettier than Reagan ever was.

I don't know who Reagan is for, save for a dwindling number of romantic right-wingers who want to 'member when. Reagan is a greatest hits of the Great Communicator's political victories and witty one-liners, directed with reverence by Sean McNamara. Apparently, according to the filmmakers, the Russians still fear the Gipper.
