Night of the living and dead
The arterial spray in The Night Comes For Us is plentiful—blood gushes from knife wounds and bullet holes in this Indonesian action movie. The violence is a gruesome mix of graceful but brutal fights and glistening viscera.
Directed by Timo Tjahjanto, The Night Comes For Us is high concept: an elite gangland enforcer disobeys orders and refuses to kill an innocent girl.
With the help of his old crew, he takes on the entire Jakarta underworld—a human wave of henchmen, including a blonde with a curved knife played with lethal calm by Hannah Al Rashid. Joe Taslim is Ito, whose change of heart triggers nearly two hours of non-stop killing. He is a tremendous action star, a living melee weapon with a heart. His friend and rival, Arian, a compact bruiser played by Iko Uwais, is sympathetic to a point. Their final confrontation is a dance of pain.
Joe Taslim is movie star material! He is still little known, though.
