The best Pixar movie is probably Wall-E, an existential comedy about a lonely robot. There's no way I would swoon over another animated film on that topic, right?
Dreamworks The Wild Robot is a sweet fable about a lonely robot who learns to care for an orphaned goose while stranded on an island teeming with hostile wildlife, each of whom is voiced by a motley crew of Hollywood stars and veteran character actors.
Lupita Nyong'o stars as Roz, the high-tech helper droid who overcomes her programming. Can a broken-down tin can love? (Obviously, yes.) Pedro Pascal is a wily fox who wants a family.
Chris Sanders directs skillfully. The story is silly and sappy, and the animation is colorful and full of energy and personality. Is this a meditation on consciousness? Oh, jeez. Maybe. Wall-E is a better movie with a capital "M," but The Wild Robot made me sniffle.
