I constantly complain about how predictable Hollywood movies are, and then I watch any M. Night Shyamalan thriller and instantly long for predictability. This is especially true of his newest nail-biter, Trap. He’s known for twists, but the truth is, Shyamalan's movies are their own genre, and that genre is "twists inside twists." I never know what direction his stories will go, which is exciting and frustrating.
The plot is given away in the trailers, but here's the short version: a serial killer takes his daughter to a teenybopper concert that is actually a *trap* set up by the cops.
Trap isn't just a high-concept game of cat-and-mouse; it’s a showcase for star Josh Hartnett, former pretty boy-turned-still- handsome-middle-aged-hunk. He's a wonderfully earthbound actor, charming and goofy, and his face fills the screen like a silent movie diva. I forgot: Shyamalan's daughter, Saleka, is Lady Raven, a crime-fighting pop star.
I'm sold! Adding it to my list on Max.
