There should be more racing scenes. Director Michael Mann's Ferrari isn't just a movie about race cars; it's also a refreshingly mature portrait of ambition and the different shapes and temperatures of a marriage, especially one that has somehow survived unbearable grief and betrayal.
But I'm simple: I want my musicals packed with songs and my race car movies mostly engines roaring and wheels squealing. Mann makes movies about driven men, but I could have used more men driving. There's a terrifying last-act race that pushes you back into your seat, but otherwise, Ferrari is a movie about Penelope Cruz turning a scorned wife role into something delicate and sharp.
Adam Driver is an actor of uncommon vulnerability, but he hides behind a fake wig and accent as 57-year-old Ferrari. I do not like accents; they're distracting, unnecessary adornments that encourage broad cultural stereotypes. Ferrari suffers from Super Mario Syndrome.

I like NASCAR, personally. Actually Demolition Derbys were my all time favorites.
Once I went to the Indy 500 with my Dad when I was 15 years old. It was the first year a turbine engine was in a race car. It won. Then they were banned.
Mostly, I just wanted to sneak into the infield and hang around all the bikers.
Richard Petty was always my hero.
Think I’ll pass on this one.
