Fury Road is one of my favorite movies of all time. All the previous Mad Max movies are great, from the drive-in exploitation of Mad Max to the brutal Road Warrior to the half-slapstick Thunderdome, to the female-driven Fury Road. And then comes the unnecessary Furiosa. You're so right about the lack of its own mystery and the constant dismantling of Fury Road's mysteries. I was particularly angry that the Bullet Farm turned out to be...just a bullet farm. And Anya Taylor-Joy, a good actor otherwise, is a wisp of a presence compared to Charlize Theron, especially in terms of physical presence. There's also far too much CGI for a director who has previously used practical effects to such great effect and reality. Furiosa is a disappointing ending to the Mad Max saga.
Theron has that thing that makes a good action star -- she looks like she can summon great reserves of physical and emotional strength when needed. I enjoy her as an actor -- she's so talented -- but especially in ass-kicking roles.
Personally, I loved Furiosa (I've seen it twice now). I think it's a different beast, closer to a dark fairy tale amid all the sci-fi dystopia, and I found it consistently engaging. Anya Taylor-Joy is terrific. :)
I loved Existnz. I think the first Cronenberg movie I saw was The Brood. Scared the ever living crap out of me.
“Is this boy human? Or the first of a new species?”
This makes me think of The Girl With all the Gifts, which I watched a few nights ago. In one of the final scenes, a dying, sepsis ridden Dr. Caldwell played by Glenn Close is trying to convince Melanie, the 9-year-old next generation zombie-with-cognition to sacrifice herself (her brain and spine hold the key to a zombie-stomping vaccine) for the sake of humanity. “Without you, the world will end,” Caldwell says (or something along those lines). Melanie replies, “The world won’t end. It just won’t be yours.”

Theron was a ballet dancer in her youth so she still has that physical strength and grace.

Loved your Crimes of the Future review... we weren't so keen. Do take a look at our thoughts if you have the time/inclination:
