150 Word Review: 'Superman' (2025)
Look! Up in the sky!
Hello, friends. I watched three blockbusters this week, an experimental Stephen King adaptation, and a documentary about Jayne Mansfield that wrecked me. Plus: ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ is better than I thought it would be. And more. AND MORE!
Director-writer James Gunn's Superman is adolescent in the best ways: idealistic, energetic, immature, but funny. It's a crowd-pleaser, with plenty of super-fights and colorful new superheroes, including Nathan Fillion as a gum-chomping loudmouth Green Lantern. Superman is also the story of a man who chooses to do the right thing.
David Corenswet is a lovable dork as the Man of Steel. Ma and Pa Kent raised a good alien boy. He's new on the job as Metropolis' super-helper. Our boy takes on kaiju, nanobots, and internet trolls, then rescues little kids and squirrels. Rachel Brosnahan is a perfect Lois Lane, the Daily Planet's sassy, street-smart reporter. If Clark and Lois don't have a spark, all is lost. Thankfully, Corenswet and Brosnahan’s super-couple are hot for each other. Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor asks the question, "What if Jeff Bezos was overtly evil? And stylish?” You will believe a dog can fly.

Mercifully short reviews !? My kind of man. As for new Superman . Ok ok you got me. I’ll go . I’m forever the first one. Reeves and Director Dick Donner (left due to “differences”. He was one of my older sis boyfriends. I had a little girl crush. Handsome, deep voice, great hair, saddle shoes. He was a Superman to me .
Yes, as someone who saw the 1978 Superman in the theater when first released, all subsequent ones have been measured against that one. This is the one that captures the sweetness of that one the most. And if you can’t do sincerity with Superman, don’t even bother.
